1856 Frederick Peel Knight
The earliest landowner of this site was FP (Frederick Peel) Knight. 
​On 13th March 1856 Frederick P Knight purchased 6 of the 21 allotments for sale in Shepparton at McGuire’s punt on the Goulburn River. He purchased Allotments 5, 6 & 10 in Section A, Allotments 2 & 9 in Section B, and Section C which was a single allotment.
On May 1st, 1958, FP Knight became the Postmaster for Shepparton. The post office was most likely in the building (he was a storekeeper c1857) shown on the 1864 map above.

1873 Forester's Hall

1887 Victorian Farmers' Gazette Office
On 12th November, 1887, Colin McPherson (farmer), James Coldwell, a Tallygaroopna Storekeeper, and William Callander, printer, launched the Victorian Farmer's Gazette.
The timber cottage shown in this adjacent photo was the office and the old Public Hall was used as the printery.

1971 Shepparton and Goulburn Valley Historical Society
Restored the original Foresters Hall and turned it into the Museum as well as adding a new south hall and amenities block.

1980 Western Extension
The next stage was completed with a western extension known as the Myrtle Ford Gallery and storeroom.

1995 Morvell Cottage
(replica of Victorian Farmers Gazette Office)

This final stage included a meeting room and admin office for the Shepparton Historical Society and two rooms for the Shepparton Family History Group.

2021 Project Rebuild - Shepparton Post Office
The Shepparton Heritage Centre Inc committee have launched their Project Rebuild to build a new museum on the site. The timber cottage will be removed and in its place a replica of the old 1883 Post Office (and clock tower) will be located at the front of the site. It will be 3 levels: basement (archives and storage of collection items), ground level (Shop, galleries, cafe seating, amenities and workspaces for volunteers and first floor (Family History Group rooms, immigration gallery and presentation area). Planned building start date - late 2023.
